The second Open Source Hardware Conference (OSHC 2025) is now open for submissions, according to the conference organisers. The conference will be held from 24 to 25 November 2025 in Chemnitz, Germany, and will focus on scientific research progress, collaborative innovation and practical applications in the field of open source hardware (OSH), with the aim of further promoting cross-border exchanges and the systematic implementation of open source hardware concepts on a global scale.
Initiated by Open Source Hardware Platform (OSHOP), the conference is open for contributions from universities, research institutes, open source communities, industrial developers and technology practitioners. According to the announcement of the conference, based on the experience of the first conference, the 2025 conference will further emphasise the mechanism of ‘from technology to standard, from idea to practice’, and promote the wide application of open source hardware in sustainable manufacturing, education and technology, scientific research and other scenarios.
Contents of the Call for Papers
Scientific Papers: Research papers focusing on open source hardware design, data interface, modular system, hardware-software collaboration and other technical issues;
Workshops: Teaching- and practice-oriented communication activities, showcasing toolchains, development processes, standard applications, etc;
Demonstrators: including physical demonstrations, prototype systems, development boards, open-source instrumentation, etc.
The organisers especially encourage innovative projects from different disciplines, including but not limited to cross-border application cases such as environmental science, sustainable agriculture, medical technology, educational equipment, etc.

Background
As an important part of open science, ‘open source hardware’ emphasises the free access, reusability and community building of hardware design, and has made rapid development in recent years in the fields of scientific research equipment, laboratory automation, open source instrumentation, STEM education, etc. Compared with open source software, open source hardware is more important than open source software. Compared with open source software, open source hardware relies more on physical resources, manufacturing chains and data standards, so this field pays particular attention to data interoperability, standardised processes and the establishment of cross-border collaboration mechanisms.
As one of the few international conferences focusing on this topic, OSH Conference promotes the convergence and dialogue of hardware open source practices in different contexts around the world by building an open communication platform, creating new cooperation space for sustainable and fair innovation of hardware.
