China Open Science Platform and Malaysia Open Science Platform Advance Cooperation and Exchange

On 21 May 2026, the Open Science Platform developed under the leadership of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSL/CAS) held an online exchange meeting with the Malaysia Open Science Platform (MOSP). Liu Xiwen, Director of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Noorsaadah Abd Rahman FASc, Chair of the Malaysia Open Science Steering Committee, attended the meeting and delivered opening remarks. The meeting was moderated by Huang Jinxia, Deputy Director of the Open Science Research Center at NSL/CAS.

Representatives from the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced China’s practices and developments in open science, including the Open for Science 10 (OS10) Programme, an open science programme proposed by the Chinese scientific community under the framework of UNESCO’s International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, as well as major open science infrastructures in China, including the Open Science Platform (OS4S), PubScholar, ChinaXiv, and the Institutional Repository Network of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Noorsaadah Abd Rahman FASc introduced the background, development journey, major achievements, current challenges, and future plans of the Malaysia Open Science Platform (MOSP). The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the interconnection and interoperability of open science platforms between China and Malaysia, research data governance, indigenous knowledge, AI-enabled open science, and future cooperation opportunities. Both sides agreed that pilot initiatives could be prioritized in areas such as metadata exchange, open science training, biodiversity, and medical and health research, while exploring joint projects and personnel exchanges through mechanisms such as the APEC Open Science Alliance (APECOSA).

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their shared hope to maintain continued communication and accelerate the advancement of future cooperation.

Participants from Malaysia also included Shaliza Ibrahim FASc, Deputy Chair of the Malaysia Open Science Steering Committee; Abrizah Abdullah FASc, Chair of the Sub-Committee on Training and Monitoring; and Liew Chee Sun, Chair of the Sub-Committee on Technical and Infrastructure, among others. Participants from China included representatives from the Open Science Research Center and the Knowledge Systems Department of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
